Trekking Through The Woods

Last yesterday afternoon, Skylar and I went trekking through the woods; hoping to scare off coyotes. I decided to take pictures on this stroll. Of course, you have to suit up to go off through the woods. If not, the mosquitoes will eat you alive.
A couple of weeks ago while I was in the back, I found some spider lilies blooming. I picked them all but one so I could have a bouquet. You can see the stalk of one remaining and now the plant part is coming up. That is the back of Skylar's head. Every now and then she gets the scent of something and she will just stop and smell around for a few minutes.

And of course, you can't go down in the woods without wading in the branch.

The last picture is of one of the trails the coyotes made. There is a lot of them but they are slowing fading away; so maybe I'm succeeding in keeping them away.

Poor Little Tractor Broke

Don't you just hate it when you are trying to get chores done and things break. I was trying to bush hog the pasture and the little "old" tractor broke. It just quit, as you can see. Just sitting out in the middle of the pasture.
Poppet and Suki didn't think they wanted in the picture taking; but they just ran a few steps and turned around and looked. Maybe they are getting use to the camera.

No, not really.

Well, maybe my brother can fix the tractor soon and I can finish this.

The Answer to the Question

Alright, now we know. This is another little mushroom coming up. And this is that round one that I didn't know about. It opened up. I guess because it didn't open all the way at first, it had to split.

Mushrooms

Check these mushrooms out. These are some really different mushrooms. I don't know if they a common and I just never paid attention to them or what.
This next one is a really different one. With this round head, I wonder if this is the way it is suppose to look. They are colorful, though. I saw a few more like these in the woods; color wise not the rounds head. We definitely have a lot of mushrooms, with all this rain we have been getting.

Foghorn Leghorn

First off, no one told me I missed a day. This morning after I let the chickens out of their house, I was walking by my little fish pond. That's when it occurred to me I blogged wordless Wednesday and yesterday was Thursday.
Yesterday afternoon, I looked out the window and Foghorn was taking him a nap. He would nestle his head in his wing, fall asleep and then his head would slowly fall to the ground. As soon as his head hit the ground, he would start all over again; same routine over and over.

Blue Birds and Doves

This morning the weather was really nice; cooler and drier air. The little blue birds were feeding in the front yard and just hanging around on the electric wires and post.

This one decided he'd just peep in the blue bird house and see if maybe a spider on bug happen to be hanging around.

This last one has doves on the left and blue birds on the right. The doves had been in the pastures feeding.

Anna's Shots

A couple of weeks ago, my niece, Anna, was over and took some pictures with my camera. She did really well. These were some flowers that were in bloom then.
And of course, we had to get Chili. She was busy looking for frogs or lizards.

Gigi is probably telling her "get on out of here, I'm looking for bugs."

Rain Rain Rain Rain Rain

Tuesday morning while it was raining, I sat on the front porch and took a few pictures. This little hummer was thinking it might as well rest where the food was. Not a bad idea. Chili was bobbing for a cat food kernel. I have Addie Cat's food dish up on the rail and one little piece fell into the dish with water in it. She had to work for it, but she got it. That's my girl.
The rain slowed down, so Skylar is stalking the horses. What is a little rain, when you can have so much fun nipping at the horses heels. See the hen in the background?

Moving on to today. Back sitting on the front porch while it pours. One of my little chickens, Tippy, decided she didn't want to waste the time or energy running for cover. She just stayed out in the rain. Just stood there while it poured down. When it slowed down to a light rain she started foraging for food again.

And Poppet and Suki decided it was going to always rain so might as well get out there and get to eating. Oh well. I really am happy we are getting a lot of rain. I just need to see a "little" Sunshine every now and then. It did stop long enough for me to get the yard mowed Wednesday. Oh, and the rabbit was back this morning. I'm glad he decided to come on back. He/She has really grown this summer. She was really small when she first started coming around.

Sweet Olive and Dove

A couple of days ago, before the rains came, my Sweet Olive Tree was just covered with blooms. As soon as you walked outside you could smell it. It smells wonderful and it's pretty also. Now after some pretty hard rains, most of the flowers have fallen off. That's okay. They bloom several times a year.

I was trying to get a good shot of the Doves. This was the best; even though she wouldn't let me get very close. She must not have wanted to be photographed. I get lots of Blue jays, Doves and squirrels in the back yard eating the chicken food I put out. I'm betting the rabbit won't be back real soon after getting trapped in the chicken coop.

Mr. Rabbitt is Back

For over three weeks I have been walking down through the woods behind my house every morning. (except yesterday) Since I have been doing that, it has kept the coyotes at bay. If I don't want to walk around in the woods at first, I just let the chickens out of the hen house and leave them in the coop. This morning I closed the coop gate and let the chickens out. While I was scattering feed around I noticed the rabbit was in the coop also. I left him in and ran I got my camera. The first one I think he was thinking to run by me; then changed his mind. These next three are when he is in the back of the pen; looking for an escape route.

This last one I was one the outside. I had left the gate opened a crack and was trying to get him to go to the gate and get out. He missed it and ran back in the hen house and I just left him there. When I went back about an hour later to let the chickens out, he was gone. I don't know if he found a crack somewhere or I just missed him and he really was in the house. The first one and the last one didn't turn out real well.

Moth

A couple of day ago, I spotted this moth on my bug zapper. It's alive, I just don't know why it's just hanging there. Yesterday I took this picture. Last night it moved and is now on the tire of my car. Hope it moves before morning.
I thought it might be resting because of it's damaged wing. It looks worse today, but I have no idea what happened to it.

Clouds With No Rain

We had some good clouds this evening. We even had thunder. But, no rain.
Bummer.

A New Camera

I have a new camera. It's a Nikon D50. One of my best friends (Think she just moved to the top of the list?)gave me this camera. I started playing with it last night; taking pictures of Chili and Skylar trying to sleep. Skylar doesn't really like this one either.
I could get far enough away from that Suki didn't know what I was doing.

But she is watching me just to make sure. Actually, she is probably watching to see if I'm bring out the treats.

I didn't do real well on this one. I've still got a lot of work to do on the picture taking.
