
Yesterday while walking the woods I saw this tree with gobs of holes in it. It is a dead tree and not a lot left.

Huge holes, so my guess is a woodpecker. If that is what made the holes, it must have had a lot of bugs.

Maybe that is the reason it was dead.

I thought woodpeckers were supposed to eat bugs and keep trees alive.

It may have had termites in it.
The huge crepe myrtle here must have gotten sick or something, because when we got here in 2008 was infested with termites.
