Just Worn Out

  • We are just worn out! We had to go through the woods, scaring of predators. We went on a long trek this time. The most fun was wading in the branch. That is always fun. But there is a price to pay for everything. The price for this fun; A BATH. Did I have the camera with me when we went through the woods? Did I think to go get the camera when taking a bath? I missed good opportunities; maybe next time.

What happened to this picture?

We're Getting Braver

My new little chickens are venturing out more. They are strolling around in the back yard This new Americauna is trying to be friends with the other Americauna pulllets I already had. Nope, she doesn't want to be friends yet.

These tomatoes are really good.

Restocking My Flock

First off, the poor little white chicken that fell off the truck didn't make. She died the next day. Bless her heart. Yesterday I went to Bonnie & Clyde (flea market) and bought four more chickens. I got another Austrolorp, an Ameracauna and two Golden Laced Wyandottes. The Ameracauna is white with black on it. I have never seen one that color. The last picture is the Wyandottes. The poor little chickens have had their beaks clipped. I didn't notice this when I was purchasing them. Not that it would have made a difference. And you can tell they have been in a cage most of the time. I kept them in the cage the rest of the day Saturday; then put them in the hen house at night. They would only come out of the house for small periods of time today. I don't think they know free range. They will learn. Also, I wanted them to know where they need to go every night.

Check out the little white rooster. Remember the little Easter biddies. Well, he's thinking, "Yea! New girl friends." This afternoon I noticed he went in the hen house to visit the new hens. He is flapping his wings and showing out.

I am also doing every thing I can to keep the varmint from getting my chickens. First thing every morning, I walk down to the woods and make a circle around my house in the woods. If the varmint is there he runs away. Hopefully, if he is not there already, my scent will keep him back. I do this about four or five times a day. S0 far it has worked. He hasn't gotten one since last Tuesday. I hope this keeps working.

Napping

There is nothing like a good nap. Chili likes to soak up a few rays on sunshine.
Skylar likes to have her head under something. I don't know if that is because she wants it dark or what. As soon as I took this picture, out comes her head and she goes back to the bedroom to sleep on her bed. She DOES NOT like the camera. She doesn't even have to see the flash; just hearing it is enough.

My Little Helpers

Last Saturday I had company that wanted to help me by picking ripe tomatoes. The tallest is my niece, Anna. You might recognize the smaller; that's Baby Bean, from the Rose Jugglers. While in town they come to visit. Anna works on her blog, Actions With Anna, here at my house. What great help they were. Skylar and Chili are wanting to play. Drop this work stuff.

They Come and They Go

This one is gone. The coyote, I think it's a coyote, got my Buttercup yesterday. I am so mad. Bless her little heart. Bad luck for one, good luck for another. This little white chicken fell off a chicken truck yesterday in front of my friends house and she gave it to me. It's limping, but I think it will be alright. She is a fat little pullet. She sure is lucky to have fallen off the truck. Now if I can just keep her out of the coyote's mouth. She doesn't know about free range; so, she will be pretty safe right now. She will just hang around in the pen.

Inside Out

I found the mushroom that looks inside out. The last picture is not good, but you can see that is really different.

The Chicken Thief is Back

And eating my chickens. Something got one of my Americana pullets yesterday. They were all here around four pm and when I went to close them up last night, one was missing. I am getting really fed up with it. He is getting FED up also. Not funny! I have a new BIG trap. It has been tripped the last two nights with nothing on the inside. I left some of the bones in the bag to see if it would be more difficult for him. Last night was probably just a coon. I believe a fox or coyote is getting the chickens during the day.

Skylar followed me down in the woods to see what I was doing. When leaving she is turning around telling me "come on; let's go play Frisbee." She ran out first and went and got the Frisbee. You come outside; you gotta play.

Yummy Corn Stalks

Poppet and Suki love the corn stalks; they just hate the camera. Every time it flashes they still freak. I snapped several shots hoping they would get used to it. So far, no.
Notice how green the grass is. And how it has grown. Yea! Since we got a lot of rain last week, it has improved conditions greatly.
Also notice Skylar stalking Suki. She just can't help it.

Here We Go Again

This really is a every day thing; for Chili anyway. I took these pictures one day last week while Oscar was visiting. He barks at the fish and Chili looks for frogs. Today Oscar was here and he was at the pond from 8:30am until 5:00pm. He came in the house once. He got him a drink of water and out he went again. He barked at the fish ALL day. After his supper; boom, asleep.

Brave Bunny

A little bunny rabbit is coming to eat the chops. He comes in morning and evening. I have seen him as late as nine or ten in the morning. This is not the best picture, but the best I can do so far. Kind of like the blue buntings. He's brave; but, not so brave I can get a really good picture. If you enlarge this picture, you can see it a little better.
