Sissy

Poor little Sissy left for Doggie Heaven yesterday. I'll miss her.

Blue Bird Watching

The blue birds have a nest in the purple martin house. I guess that is okay as the purple martins don't come to my house to use it. Anyway, this morning they were having a fit. Some starlings were at there nest. Now of all the holes in the purple martin house, one starling was looking in the hole where the baby blue birds are.

The blue birds were in the tree squawking. I thought I would have to shake the pole the get rid of the starlings, but when I walked out they flew off.

And the blue birds calmed down.

This afternoon I saw both of them with bugs in their mouths to feed the babies. I ran back to get the camera; too late, already fed them.

"You okay in there?"
I haven't seen the cardinal anymore building on the nest. Maybe she abandoned it; fiddle.

On one of my hay bales grass is growing and now a few mushrooms. Think maybe there are a few fairies in there?

Staining My Porch

And I'm not finished. I'm putting it on with a brush. For one reason, it is so windy today. The storms will be tomorrow. Plus, I ran out of stain. I didn't go buy more, because the rain is coming. I blocked off the steps, to keep everyone off until it dries. I'm going by instructions; twenty-four hours.

Never mind! That didn't work. I looked out the door and there she was. Luckily it was dry enough not to matter.

This morning before getting started with my work, I looked out the back window and saw a cardinal building a nest in the sweet olive.

It is hard to see her in this picture; she just blends in. She was bringing another twig. I hope she continues to build it here.

Ending with a picture of my Almond. Something almond?

Shedding Time

When I was walking across the pasture, at first I thought chicken feathers.

Nope, Suki's hair. She is wallowing and rubbing everywhere to get rid of hair. It's too hot! Poppet is also, hers doesn't show as well.

Can you believe; a water lily bloom and it's only mid March.

Doubling Up

Yesterday I got only six eggs, so the hens were hopping to today. Lucy, the hen in the back, has been setting this spot since Sunday. And Rosa always wants this spot. I noticed a couple of days ago Rosa was clucking like she was getting broody. I hope not.

Just sit on top of her head; I'm sure she doesn't mind.

Pepper is outside just a clucking. She is ready now.

Finally, Peppers turn. I guess it is hard to lay an egg with a hen on top of you.

Skylar had to go to the vet to have her ears checked. Got to make sure they are healed.

"They're fine; NOW can we go?
Yes, we can. Good girl.

My New Garden Plot

Because I didn't put them in the place where I would be growing my plants, I now have to move them. And let me tell you they are much heavier now. Plus one had fireants in it. Not good.

I tried growing tomatoes in haybales once before and I didn't do really well. My cousin does every year and they turn out really well. I'm going to have to get a little coaching. I might need to get me a back up plan.

I see Fle (one of my little hens) is following me around.

This is growing in my little green house. Isn't pretty?

But, I Found Something

Just had a bath yesterday, right? Actually, Oscar started it. He was digging in a spot behind Chili. Remember the chicken house fertilizer I got last week. This morning Chili was rolling in a big wad. Thank goodness it was good and dry. So much for baths.

"It's got to be down here!"

"Finally, my turn."

It Is NOT Saturday!

And is NOT bath day. Then you have the nerve to take my picture in the tub!"

"At least I was out of the tub before she brought out the camera."

"I don't like it."

Play time now. Nothing like wallowing on a toy.

"Throw it!"

"I know you didn't just get my toy"

"I just want to be petted."

Whew! That Was Close

Storms came through today. I'm sure everyone has heard about them on the news. Luckily I was just on the edge of one coming through here. Also I don't think Louisiana is getting the real bad stuff.

I hadn't been home long when it starting hailing. I peeped my head out the door and took that first picture.

I couldn't find any dents in my car; which I consider some kind of miracle.

I think the hail stones were about three-fourths on an inch thick; if not some of them over.

I forgot and left my eggs out last night. Only three were cracked from the hail. The other was just kind of hair line fracture. I just put them in the refrigerator and eat them in the morning.

We finally got some rain yesterday afternoon and the smell is much better. This morning was the first time the horses have been in the pasture. They would go in the small section that didn't get the fertizer.

They needn't bother; there is really nothing there. Just a few blades of grass. I guess for March 1, not bad. Hopefully more grass soon.

The chickens are even out enjoying the pasture this morning.

Everyone liked the chicken house except the horses. This afernoon, after going to feed the horses, I found Skylar enjoying herself. Yep, you know what she is chewing on.

Chili likes it also. She made a point of going on the other side of the fence to get the good stuff, like Skylar

This is just before she started getting a good roll going.
