Nasty Little Varment

Chicken problems again. Every night I close up my chickens in the hen house and count them to make sure everyone is there. Well, Saturday night everyone was not there. I was missing one of the large roosters, two hens (one barred rock and one sex-link) and one pullet (one of the americaunas). I just could not believe four missing, so I looked every where. Nothing. The next morning I let every one out to go about their business. A couple of hours later I heard a commotion and went out to check. Something had got one of the little white roosters. So, last night I set my trap. You see what I caught. I don't believe that this coon got five chickens in two days. Maybe more coons, or a fox, or a coyote. I know I'm going to have to keep setting the trap for a while. I relocated the coon this morning. He better not come back.

He looks like a cute little pest.
When Sis was at the apartment they hung out around the trash bin. She said they weren't even afraid of anyone..

We have coons and possums that come on our carport and eat the cat's food. They don't seem to bother the cats very much but they have scared the dickens out of my wife a time or too. (I bet she scared them right back, too!). Nice blog - I enjoyed your photos - especially the barn in your header.

Look at that cute face. He/she looks a little confused, wondering how in the world he ended up in this fix! Are coons predators? I thought they feasted on leftovers in trash cans and maybe berries/plants, but I don't really know their dietary habits.
