Tomato Plants

Yesterday I re potted my tomato plants. I had started them from seed in little peat pellets. I have four kinds of plants; Big Boy, Early Girl, Beef Master and Cherry. This is not all of them. I have eight each of the first three and about four of the Cherry.

No, they are not all for me. I am sharing with family and friends, but I will have enough for me, I think.

Tug O War

Skylar and Chili are always in for a game of tug-o-war. My niece, Anna, and son, Tony, are willing to spend a little time with the game.

Anna is trying to get Oscar in the pull.
Chili is wondering why she is not in the big middle of this. Maybe next time.

Time Again

I know; I've been slack on my blogging. Hopefully, I can ease back into this. I have been doing a lot of outside work and when I come in I decide I am too tired to blog. Or something.

A couple of weeks ago, Baby Bean was visiting Pea Ridge and we went for a walk in the woods. I have been walking through the woods every now and then; just in case the coyotes decide they want to come back. In the back I found the butter cups blooming. A few anyway. We use to call this one Scrambled Eggs Buttercup.

I also found some deer tracks. Right when BB was coming over to see, Chili came along and stepped on the best deer track.

Here is BB posing for me.

The stream is going under the roots of a tree and it made a little bridge for us to cross. We had a good time hiking and getting our exercise.

Peeps

I bought some peeps Friday. Just can't stand it. I guess I am a baby chick addict. I lost so many last year in the summer to the coyotes I want to make sure I don't get that low again.

I got two Barred Rock, one Dominique, two Rhode Island Reds and one Americana. One of the little black ones, I think that one in the center between the two reds, doesn't look well. I hope she will be alright.

I just love watching the cute little things.

Now that I know what it took to get rid of the coyotes, I'm hoping I can nip it in the bud before it gets bad again. I also have to watch out for hawks this time of year.
I also have some Golden Sex-Link ordered. I think it will be about a week when they arrive. I also found the other Wyandotte broody today. I will probably let her have a few eggs.

Where's My Supper

Sometimes, when I'm later than normal, the horses are not happy. I had been out playing a little with the dogs before going to feed the horses. They recognize the sounds of me out playing with the dogs.
They come peep around the corner to see what is keeping me.

Of course, this is right up Skylar's alley. This tops Frisbee. Let's round up the horses.
You can see the trail that goes around the corner and leading to the barn.

Okay, everybody break and run for the barn. Supper's on!

Fun With the Armadillo

Last fall while walking through the woods I found some blooming Spider Lilies. About where I found them, now is Daffodil plants. No blooms though. I have now idea why flowers would be this far back in the woods. Could have been a homestead many, many years ago.

Look what we came across. Then Skylar found him. She just stared at him for a while. I don't think they can see very well because the armadillo didn't pay any attention to Skylar; until she snapped at it's tail.

Then it jump and ran into a tree. I couldn't help but laugh. That was funny. Then it ran into a hole in the creek bank.

It knew just where the hole was and he in got in there in a hurry. I couldn't believe how fast he got in there. That's when Chili noticed it. Something went in this hole. She tried to dig him out, but it just didn't work.

Surprise, surprise, Skylar found a stick if someone wants to play.

Well, if we're not going to play, I'll just wade and cool off.

Chili on the scent of something. I have to get a close up to see her, she is so like the color of the leaves.

Pushing The Boundaries

My chickens are going further and further into the woods. Actually, they are pushing the boundaries pretty much in every direction. A couple of weeks ago, they not only crossed the road but went further down the road than they have been before. At least they were in the ditch.

Maybe, its because they are thinking surely there are some bugs or something somewhere. We have had a colder than normal winter than we have had in quite a long time. It's getting spring; gotta spread out.
Well, today was wonderful. So, this afternoon while I was checking on the chickens, I decided to take the dogs for a trek through the woods. We had a really good time.

Chili and Sissy were ready to go. Not Skylar, she is waiting with the Frisbee back at the edge of the woods.

Do you see Chili? She in under the bank and ferns.

There she is. Off we go again. More to see.

Up we go; see what is going on up here.

Okay, here she comes. She gave it her best shot to wait for us but saw this could take a while.

She decided she would get in the lead. Frisbee forgot for a short while, we are into the this now. We had a good walk and lots of fun. I took enough pictures to post for weeks; I won't do that to you. Not weeks anyway, but tomorrow I have some cute ones to post. Walking through the woods with just a short sleeve tee shirt and no mosquitoes. Did I say wonderful?

Phew! Another Close One

This is why I had my trap set Saturday night. Last night it was about seven o'clock when I went out to close the chickens. I had closed the the door to the hen house and had turned around to head back to the house. This is what my light caught. Hey opossum, I know you are not dead.
This same thing happen last week, so I set the trap, but he didn't come back. I didn't bother with setting it tonight either. The poor dumb thing was still out there when I let the dogs out about nine last night. Oscar, who was spending the night, found him and gave him the very devil for about forty-five minutes. Besides it is raining tonight and I don't want to fool with it.
